UNITED METHODIST WOMEN
The organized unit of United Methodist Women shall be a community of women whose purpose is: To know God and to experience freedom as whole persons through Jesus Christ. To develop a creative supportive fellowship. To expand concepts of mission through participation in the global ministries of the church.
The Purpose is adopted by the General Conference of the United Methodist Church as the official mission statement of United Methodist Women. Out of the Purpose are four mission foci: To be a community of women; To know God, To develop a creative and supportive fellowship; To expand concepts of mission.
Each focus relates to the mission initiatives and priorities of United Methodist Women.
The United Methodist Women’s Unit at the Port Washington church engages in mission in the local community and contributes to the larger United Methodist Women’s mission. The picture shows the UMW unit engaged in sending out Valentine’s Day Cards to members of the congregation who are unable to attend worship regularly due to illness or limited mobility.
Mission activities go on all year. There are always prayer shawls available for those who want to symbolically wrap themselves in the energy of prayer. In the picture below shawls are prepared for distribution to victims in the Orlando Pulse Nightclub shooting and the West Virginia Floods
